Biography:

external image IMG_3047-RESIZE-250-.jpgSusanna Georgi, born in Denmark but permanently residing in Andorra for the past 13 years, is better known as one half of Me & My, the duo which got their big break through in 1995 with the song Dub -I - Dub that became a massive hit, not only in Denmark, but in most of Europe. Their next single Baby boy added Japan to the list. This is not the first time Susanne has tried to make it to the Eurovision Song Contest. She tried once more in 2007, together with sister Pernille, to represent native Denmark by taking part in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix placing 6th in the final. This time she takes part for Andorra on her own with the uptempo song Get a Life. Susanne Georgi is now working on her first solo-album with a pop/rock style. She spends most of her time in the studio writing and recording songs not only for herself but for other artists.

Song Information:

Susanna Georgi's song "La Teva Decisio"(Get a Life) represented Andorra in the 2009 Eurovision song contest. This was'nt the first time that Susanna Georgi was in Eurovision, she represented her native country Denmark last year. The song is sang in Catlonian with the exception of the chours that is sang in English. It was on the Spanish singles charts with number ten for a week, which was probably caused by the fact that she sings in Catalonian. The music for the song was composed by Rune Braager, external image IMG_0473-RESIZE-250-.jpg
Marcus Winther-John,Lene Dissing Susanna and her sister. The lyrics were wrtten by Josep Roca Vila, who is the only one on the team that is from Andorra. He was in charge of adding the local flavour, while the rest of the team who worked for Eurovision artists before concentrate on the sound of the song. "La teva decisio" is still catogrized as Danish Pop just like all the other albums by the artist, even though she lives in Andorra for 13 years now. The question that arose at first was can she represent Andorra ? 47% of televoters said yes, but there is still some uncertinity. The song was chosen by televoters with hope that it will qualify to the finals, since all the others Andorran entries failed to do so. Maybe the song was chose on a pure desire to win the contest rather than represent Andorra. The lyrics beside the fact that are half Catalonian have nothing to do with Andorran culture. The Andorran song was just another pop song about love and life and iit failed to impress everyone else when it was eliminated before semi-finals. The question is how did it impress the people of Andorra? Well Susanna Georgi was creating and realsing albums in Andorra for a while now. People grew to love her and her sister as they dominated the Andorran charts in 90's and even now during her solo carrear.

Andorra’s Eurovision History:

external image susanne_georgi-RESIZE-270-275.jpgAndorra has a limited history when it comes to competing in the Eurovision song competition. Andorra first stepped onto the competition stage in 2004 and made history as the first country to sing in Catalan. However, since first entering the song competition Andorra has never had an artist qualify for the Final round of competition. Now, Eurovision 09’ marks the countries sixth year of competition.

This year hopes are very high for female artist Susanne Georgi of Denmark to reach the final round of competition. In the past the National Radio Station of Andorra, Ràdio i Televisió d'Andorra (RTVA) held a reality show contest, similar to an American Idol to select the artist and song for its entry in Eurovision. This year the RTVA announced an internal selection process of a voting jury and SMS voting would be used to select its entry. Despite some contempt for this new selection process a growing interest in Eurovision has developed amongst the people of Andorra. With close finishes in past years it will be exciting to watch and see how Andorra fairs in this years competition.

Narrative:

Andorra has been trying to make the Eurovision finals for a few years. For this year's 2009 season, their national broadcaster, RTVA, created a fresh outline for how contestants will be chosen. This season, Andorra has asked singers and composers to submit three songs, one of which was required to be preformed in Catalan. Interestingly, Andorra specified that any song submitted could not have been released to the public before submitting. These rules provided for an even playing field where experienced artists and aspiring musicians would be able to have the same shot at representing Andorra in the Eurovision Song Contest. After submissions were received, Andorra relied on a jury of music professionals to narrow down the entrants to three. Upon selection of the three, Andorra uses modern SMS text messaging as a platform for the populous to submit their vote. Utilizing new technologies allows Andorra to better connect with their entire country, and the youth in particular.
